The world is rapidly becoming more urban, and fossil-free city development will be decisive for the world’s climate. In 2016 Oslo launched its first pilot project with a fossil free construction site. Now this is standard procedure for all municipal building projects. Clean construction is embedded in Oslo’s climate budget and innovative climate governance. Oslo is a climate frontrunner, but not big enough to transform the construction market alone. How can our capital with 700 000 inhabitants spark a global shift to clean construction sites and net zero buildings – together with the C40 network with its 96 cities and 700 million citizens?
